Vispirms attiecībā uz mūsu romāna virsrakstu, lai mums būtu atļauts īsos vārdos vērsties pie mūsu lasītājiem. Nu jau būs divdesmit gadu, kopš mēs sarunājamies, un tās nedaudzās sekojošās rindiņas, es ceru, neizjauks mūsu veco draudzību, bet padarīs šīs saites vēl ciešākas.
Kopš mūsu pēdējās tikšanās mēs atkal esam pārdzīvojuši vienu revolūciju. Es šo revolūciju paredzēju jau 1821./22. gadā, es aizrādīju uz tās cēloņiem, sekoju tās nobriešanai, aprakstīju tās norisi: vēl vairāk — pirms sešpadsmit gadiem es pateicu, ko es darīšu un ko es patiesi izdarīju pirms astoņiem mēnešiem.
Lai man būtu še atļauts citēt pēdējās pravietiskās rindas no manas grāmatas: „Gallija un Francija".
„Lūk, bezdibenis, kas aprīs pašreizējo valdību. Bāka, ko mēs aizdedzinām, apgaismo tikai tās bojāeju, jo, ja arī tā gribētu glābties, tas vairs nav iespējams: straume, kas to aizrauj, ir pārāk spēcīga, un vējš, kas to dzen, ir pārāk brāzmains. Tomēr tās pazušanas stundā mūsu cilvēcīgās atmiņas pārspēs mūsu pilsoņa stoieismu, tad atskanēs saucēja balss: "Nost ar karali, bet Dievs lai sargā karali!"
Un šī balss būs mana balss.
Vai es neesmu turējis savu solījumu? Vai vienīgā balss visā Francijā, kas uzdrošinājās teikt ardievas kādai cēlai draudzībai, vai šī balss, dinastijai sagrūstot, skanēja pietiekami stipri, lai to dzirdētu?
Tātad šī revolūcija, kuru mēs paredzējām, mūs nebūt nepārsteidza. Mēs to apsveicām kā patālu, sengaidītu nenovēršamību; mēs necerējām, ka tā būs labāka, mēs domājām, ka tā būs sliktāka. Jau divdesmit gadus mēs rokamics tautu pagātnē un zinām, kas ir revolūcijas.
Nerunāsim par cilvēkiem, kas tās taisījuši, ne arī par tiem, kas no tām kaut ko guvuši. Katra vētra saduļķo ūdeņus; katra zemestrīce paceļ virspusē apakšējos slāņus. Bet tad pēc dabas likumiem katra molekula atrod savu līdzsvara stāvokli: zeme nostabilizējas, ūdeņi noskaidrojas un debesis, kas uz mirkli bija satumsušas, met rāmajā ezeru spogulī savu mūžīgo zvaigžņu zeltaino atspīdumu.
Un tā, lūk, mūsu lasītāji pēc 24. februāra mūs sastaps tādus pašus kā senāk: varbūt pierē pāris grumbiņu vairāk un sirdī daža jauna brūce. Bet tā nu tad arī būtu visa pārmaiņa, kas ar mums notikusi šajos pagājušajos astoņos briesmīgajos mēnešos.
Tos, kurus mēs mīlējām, mēs mīlam vēl arvien; no tiem, no kuriem reiz baidījāmies, mēs vairs nebīstamies; un tos, kurus reiz nicinājām, nicinām vairāk nekā jebkad.
Un tā, lūk, ne mūsos, ne mūsu darbos nekas nav mainījies; varbūt mūsu darbos, tāpat kā mūsos, viena otra grumbiņa vai brūcīte vairāk, tas arī ir viss.
Līdz šim mēs esam sarakstījuši apmēram četrus simtus sējumu. Esam pārmeklējuši daudzus gadu simteņus un daudzas senaizmirstas personas no jauna izveduši publisko interešu dienas gaismā.
Un, lūk, mēs prasām visai šai mūsu radīto personu kopai, vai mēs jebkad esam izvairījušies atsegt pagātnes noziegumus, netikumus un tikumus? Par karaļiem, par augstmaņiem un tāpat par vienkāršo tautu mēs esam teikuši vienmēr tikai patiesību, vai to, kas mums likās patiesības, un, ja mirušie spētu celt iebildumus, kā to var darīt dzīvie, tad tāpat, kā mēs nekad neesam atsaukuši savus vārdus dzīvo priekšā, mēs tos neatsauktu arī mirušo priekšā.
Ir sirdis, kam katra nelaime ir svēta, katra neveiksme respektējama; vai runa ir par dzīvības vai troņa zaudēšanu, godbijība liek mums noliekties tiklab atvērta kapa, kā arī salauzta troņa priekšā.
Kad mēs tagad uzrakstām mūsu grāmatas nosaukumu pirmajā lappusē, tad tā nav mūsu brīvā izvēle; nē, tas nozīmē, ka ir pienākusi tās stunda; hronoloģija nav pārliekama: pēc 1774. gada nāk 1784. gads un pēc „Žozefa Balzāmo" nāk „Karalicnes kaklarota".

Bet lai apmierinās visjūtīgākās dvēseles: arī tādās lietās, ko šodien var iztirzāt pilnīgi atklāti, vēsturnieks lai ir rakstnieka cenzors. Nekā pārdroša par karalieni sievieti, nekā aizskaroša par karalieni mocekli. Vai tā bija cilvēcīga vājība, vai karalisks lepnums, mēs notēlosim visu, bet notēlosim tā, kā to darīja tie gleznotāji ideālisti, kas prata saskatīt visur daiļo; tā kā to darīja Eņģeļa vārdā nosauktais mākslinieks, kas savā vismīļā redzēja tikai svētu Madonnu; un kaut no vienas puses skan nekaunīgi pamfleti, bet no otras — slavas dziesmas, mēs savu ceļu iesim svinīgi, bezpartejiski, skumji, sekodami mūsu fantāzijas dzejiskai izdomai. Tā, kuras nedzīvo galvu bende parādīja tautai, ir nopirkusi sev tiesību nenosarkt nākotnes priekšā.

The opening pages of a Haruki Murakami novel can be like the view out an airplane window onto tarmac. But at some point between page three and fifteen-it's page thirteen in Kafka On The Shore-the deceptively placid narrative lifts off, and you find yourself breaking through clouds at a tilt, no longer certain where the plane is headed or if the laws of flight even apply.
Joining the rich literature of runaways, Kafka On The Shore follows the solitary, self-disciplined schoolboy Kafka Tamura as he hops a bus from Tokyo to the randomly chosen town of Takamatsu, reminding himself at each step that he has to be "the world¹s toughest fifteen-year-old." He finds a secluded private library in which to spend his days-continuing his impressive self-education-and is befriended by a clerk and the mysteriously remote head librarian, Miss Saeki, whom he fantasizes may be his long-lost mother. Meanwhile, in a second, wilder narrative spiral, an elderly Tokyo man named Nakata veers from his calm routine by murdering a stranger. An unforgettable character, beautifully delineated by Murakami, Nakata can speak with cats but cannot read or write, nor explain the forces drawing him toward Takamatsu and the other characters.
To say that the fantastic elements of Kafka On The Shore are complicated and never fully resolved is not to suggest that the novel fails. Although it may not live up to Murakami's masterful The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Nakata and Kafka's fates keep the reader enthralled to the final pages, and few will complain about the loose threads at the end.

Previous books such as The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and Norwegian Wood have established Murakami as a true original, a fearless writer possessed of a wildly uninhibited imagination and a legion of fiercely devoted fans. In this latest addition to the author's incomparable oeuvre, 15-year-old Kafka Tamura runs away from home, both to escape his father's oedipal prophecy and to find his long-lost mother and sister. As Kafka flees, so too does Nakata, an elderly simpleton whose quiet life has been upset by a gruesome murder. (A wonderfully endearing character, Nakata has never recovered from the effects of a mysterious World War II incident that left him unable to read or comprehend much, but did give him the power to speak with cats.) What follows is a kind of double odyssey, as Kafka and Nakata are drawn inexorably along their separate but somehow linked paths, groping to understand the roles fate has in store for them. Murakami likes to blur the boundary between the real and the surreal-we are treated to such oddities as fish raining from the sky; a forest-dwelling pair of Imperial Army soldiers who haven't aged since WWII; and a hilarious cameo by fried chicken king Colonel Sanders-but he also writes touchingly about love, loneliness and friendship. Occasionally, the writing drifts too far into metaphysical musings-mind-bending talk of parallel worlds, events occurring outside of time-and things swirl a bit at the end as the author tries, perhaps too hard, to make sense of things. But by this point, his readers, like his characters, will go just about anywhere Murakami wants them to, whether they "get" it or not.

Aleksandrs Dimā (1803 - 1870) ir franču rakstnieks. Daudz lasījis, vēl vairāk rakstījis. Viņa Kopotos rakstus veido 300 sējumu. A. Dimā tēvs sacerējis romānus, lugas un ceļojumu aprakstus. Dimā ir ģenerāļa dēls, viņa tēvs agri miris. Bērnībā skolu apmeklējis maz, ir Orleānas hercoga bibliotekārs, vada savu teātri, daudz ceļo, spekulē un beidz savu dzīvi garīgi un miesīgi salauzts. Dimā rakstījis bezgala daudz, vienlaikus sācis vairākus romānus, ik nedēļu izlaidis pa sējumam. Daudzus no tiem uzrakstījis nevis viņš, bcl gan viņa algotņi. Viņam pašam pielika ar iegūto naudu un slavu.

Kopš 50. un 80. gadu izdevumiem latviešu lasītājiem viena no visinteresantākajām pēckara gados tulkotajām grāmatām ir bijis Jaroslava Hašeka romānu cikls par brašo kareivi Jozefu Šveiku, kurš pat visdrūmākajos apstākļos prot jokot, paironizēt, smiet par cilvēku vājībām, aprobežotību, aizspriedumainību un augstprātību.
Diemžēl visus pēckara gadus tika noklusēts, ka pēc J. Hašeka nāves romānu turpinājis viņa draugs rakstnieks K. Vaneks, kurš uzrakstījis vēl divas daļas. Tās abas 20.—30. gadu mijā tika publicētas žurnālā «Atpūta», un pēc šī tulkojuma ir sagatavots arī jaunais krietnā kareivja Šveika dēku, piedzīvojumu un pārdzīvojumu turpinājums.

Der Autor
Jack London (eig. John Griffith, später J. G. London nach seinem Stiefvater) wurde am 12.01.1876 in San Franzisko geboren und wuchs in ärmlichen Verhältnissen auf. Er schlägt sich als Fabrikarbeiter, Austernpirat, Landstreicher und Seemann durch, holt das Abitur nach, beginnt zu studieren, geht dann als Goldsucher nach Alaska, lebt monatelang im Elendsviertel von London, gerät als Korrespondent im russisch-japanischen Krieg in Gefangenschaft und bereist die ganze Welt. Am 22.11.1916 setzt der berühmte Schriftsteller auf seiner Farm in Kalifornien seinem zuletzt von Alkohol, Erfolg und Extravaganz geprägten Leben ein Ende.

Zamieszkuje w domu niegdyś należącym do rodziny Fleishmanów, których dziewięcioletni syn Jacob utonął w morzu. Über den Autor

Seksualizm był dla Kościoła problemem, z którym nie poradził sobie przez ponad 1500 lat, ani w znaczeniu teologicznym ani w codziennym życiu jego wielkich przedstawicieli. Był też tym problemem, który leżał u podstaw największego podziału chrześcijaństwa sprzed blisko pięciuset lat – choć nie pierwszego w jego dziejach.

Uroczystości koronacyjne zakończyły się i przyszło nowej pani na Wawelu rozpocząć panowanie w zupełnie obcym kraju, ze zwyczajami i temperamentami ludzi tak różnymi od italskich. A szczęście miała "bella principessa" ogromne, że trafił jej się Zygmunt na męża; Zygmunt - miłujący pokój i... spokój. Inny mąż, mniej powściągliwy i opanowany, pewnie by "italskiego smoka" presto do porządku przywołał i kto wie, może nawet kijaszkiem obił po królewskim, dostojnym siedzeniu; i właściwe miejsce wskazał... Zygmunt ze stoickim spokojem znosił słynne wybuchy gniewu, z ciskaniem przedmiotów i krzykami pełnej temperamentu królowej.
Ciężko być musiało Bonie na początku: nie znała języka swoich poddanych ani ich obyczajów; z jednym i drugim szybko (presto) sobie poradziła, opanowując język i wprowadzając nowe mody i obyczaje, własne, italskie!
Książka "Koniec świata i Hard-boiled Wonderland" opublikowana została prawie dwadzieścia lat temu, w 1985 roku, co może oznaczać, że Japonia wcześniej niż Ameryka przejęła się ideą matriksa, zapewne dlatego, że silnie doświadczyła strachów społeczeństw wysoko stechnicyzowanych. Ktoś dobierze się do naszego mózgu, coś, dajmy na to elektryczna maszynka do mięsa czy telewizor, roztoczy kontrolę nad naszym życiem. W jednej z pierwszych scen książki Murakamiego bohater jedzie dźwiękoszczelną windą, gorączkowo zastanawiając się, gdzie ukryte są kamery.
Hikikomori siedzą w kuchniach
Bohaterowie większości książek Harukiego Murakamiego rezygnują z intratnych posad, eleganckich mieszkań, luksusowych samochodów, a ich marzeniem jest, jak w przypadku bohatera "Końca świata…", żeby kupić sobie mały domek na wsi, pić piwo, słuchać Mozarta i uczyć się greki. Niestety, aby zarobić na domek, bohater "Końca świata…" pracuje w Systemie (i przetwarza w swoim bezbronnym, ale genialnym mózgu jakieś skomplikowane dane). Pracuje jednak niechętnie, jakby półgębkiem.
Bohaterowie, których stworzył Murakami, przypominają dzisiejszych hikikomori – młodych Japończyków, którzy zamykają się w domach i latami z nich nie wychodzą. Jak alarmują psychologowie i socjolodzy, to coraz powszechniejszy w Japonii rodzaj depresji. Hikikomori zostają przez Murakamiego wywabieni z domów, bo muszą (o ironio losu!) ratować świat. Także bohater "Końca świata…" rad nie rad włazi do kanałów, zmaga się z podziemnymi stworami, przyjmuje dziwnych gości, którzy demolują mu mieszkanie – jest oczywiście Alicją w Krainie Czarów bezradną wobec wciąż strofujących ją istot. Za przewodnika po krainie "pod ziemią" (po zaświatach?) ma zaś dorosłą wersję "króliczka" – pulchną dziewczynę w różowym kostiumiku.
Proza Murakami kipi tego typu absurdalnym humorem. Japoński pisarz zbiera jak odkurzacz literackie (i filmowe) tropy, figury stylistyczne, schematy fabularne – jest w prozie może kimś porównywalnym do Tarantino, ale przy tym ma coś z powagi czy ponuractwa Lyncha (tak jak on lubi eksponować motywy odsyłające do psychoanalizy: studnie, tunele). Murakami prowokuje porównania z filmem, ponieważ jego proza jest gęsta od obrazów. W tym sensie zmysłowa, a nie intelektualna.
Silnie eksploatowany przez horrory klasy B motyw "stworów z podziemi, które porywają ludzi i żywią się trupami" u Murakamiego rozwija się ku mniej spektakularnej, ale może tym intensywniejszej grozie – ku skojarzeniom z pisarstwem najwybitniejszego nowelisty japońskiego Akutagawy Ryunosukego (twórcy m.in. opowiadania o Kappach – krainie wodników) i ku jego "Życiu pewnego szaleńca" – pełnej bólu opowieści o świecie, który rozsypuje się jak stłuczone lustro.
Nawiązania do "Alicji w Krainie Czarów" w "Końcu świata…" można uznać jedynie za grę na planie fabuły albo wziąć za wskazówkę. "Alicja…" to analiza umysłu pogrążonego we śnie napisana przez matematyka. Abstrahując od operacji logicznych, postawiony tam zostaje egzystencjalny problem tożsamości. Czy ja to ja? Gdzie jest moja stopa? – pytała Alicja zagrożona roztopieniem się w… Śnie? Niebycie? Śmierci? I w istocie to sen i śmierć są tematem "Końca świata…" Harukiego Murakamiego.
Schodzenie do bardo
Bohater żyje w dwóch nurtach. Murakami prowadzi narrację w ten sposób, że związki przyczyny i skutku między poszczególnymi etapami jego historii są zamazane. W nurcie dziennym dostaje jakieś zadania do wykonania, racjonalizuje rzeczywistość, próbuje panować nad sytuacją i złożyć świat w spójną całość. W nocnym "stanie przejścia" przebywa w mieście zasypanym śniegiem, za którego murami umierają jednorożce, a na peryferiach dogorywają cienie, które odłączono od ciał. Pracuje w bibliotece, gdzie z czaszek jednorożców wydobywa się i czyta sny (przypomina się tu i Poe, i Borges).
"Koniec świata…" może być odczytany jako zapis wędrówki po bardo – buddyjskiej krainie zmarłych-żywych – które jest miejscem jakiegoś stanu pośredniego, gdzie umysł jeszcze żyje fantomami dni, kakofonią obrazów. "Dlaczego słońce wciąż świeci? Dlaczego ptaki wciąż śpiewają? Czyżby nie wiedziały, że świat się już skończył?" – czytamy w motcie książki.
Murakami potrafi w prozie osiągnąć to, co rzadko się udaje – z obrazów opatrzonych, dźwięków osłuchanych i wyzutych z wszelkiego czaru, jak Sting puszczany w supermarketach, z fragmentów wydobytych z pamięci i uczuć tak odległych, jakby przytrafiły się komuś innemu – Murakami potrafi ułożyć historię, która jest jak dziecięca zabawa, wciagająca i jednak groźna, tajemnicza jak jednorożce, które są obecne, a przecież nigdy nie istniały.
Fantastyczna, pełna literackich odniesień baśń dla dorosłych autorstwa Johna Connolly’ego, wcześniej cenionego autora thrillerów i horrorów.
Dwunastoletniego Davida właśnie osierociła matka. Ojciec założył nową rodzinę, w której pozornie nie ma dla niego miejsca. Zrozpaczonemu chłopcu towarzyszą w samotności książki.
